Memory Lane
I have been kind of misty eyed all day, and I think most of it has to do with the fact that in a few hours, I will be watching my baby sister graduate from highschool. I am still struggling to say those words to myself as I write this post.
If you are not aware, I am the oldest of four girls. Kayla and Jessica, twins born 15 minutes apart (and twins who not only look absolutely nothing alike, but are just as polar opposites in personality) and then Tina (aka The Baby). She also has *ahem* given herself some nicknames such as: Mom's Favorite Daughter, Favorite Aunt Tina (or FAT for short!), The Best, The Cutest, but really do I need to go?
I bet I can speak for Kayla and Jessica when I say her real nickname(s) should be: The Brat, The Pain, The-oh, wait, this was supposed to be a post written out of sisterly love! Nevermind! :)
Tina (who hates to be called by her given name, Christina, in case you were wondering) is a lover of her dog, Harley, anything zebra print, and chicken fingers and french fries. Did I mention she has a niece and nephew who have her wrapped around their little fingers?
Being the oldest of four girls, with the age gap being 13-15 years, I kind of took on the "mothering" role at an early age. And I am happy to say that after years of being shunned because I was "too old" for them to hang out with me, they have suddenly found room for me in their lives again! (Only because I have two small children they worship and adore). Sigh.
Tina will receive her diploma from Stanhope Elmore High School tonight, just 15 years after I received my diploma from them myself. She has so many honors tassles I can't remember all of them. Do I get credit for remembering one of them had to do with Spanish? The only reason I remember is because I called her a nerd! :P
There is nothing I wouldn't do for these girls. Growing up life pulled us all in different directions, especially with them still being young enough to travel with my mom (who was still in the military) and me being here in Alabama. But since my mom moved overseas almost three years ago to work, the girls and I try to find time to spend together whenever possible. I am excited because we get to celebrate Tina's graduation tonight, and then we are continuing the celebration at lunch time tomorrow!
And since Tina is notorious for pointing out (which sounds more like whining
to the rest of us) that NO pictures of her actually exist, here is my proof!

Mother's Day 2010
This is the second year in a row that Gracie has been in preschool choir at our church, and also the second year that Leslie (preschool choir director) has put together a small program for the kids to do. Normally they sing a few songs, and then they have a "special" Mother's Day song they always do. It is very sweet, and I am very glad that Gracie seems to love singing as much as her Mommy does!
Psalms 118:24 (NIV)-"This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Too cute!!

Preschool Program
Gracie's preschool program was rescheduled this year because of illness all over the daycare. If students weren't missing weeks of school for strep, fever virus, or some other ailment, teachers were missing school because either they were sick OR one of their children was sick!
So they decided to do the program this year just for the P3 Class, because these are the students who will "move up" next year to attend the first half of the day at the East Campus, up on the hill on Highway 14.
Enjoy the videos!
Gracie and her classmates - pledge to the American Flag.
Gracie and her classmates - pledge to the Christian flag.
James 1:17 (KJV) - "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above."
Psalms 139:14 (KJV)- "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
John 3:16 (KJV) - "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.."
A song the class did called "Rolled Away".
The students also presented the mother's with flowers, since this was the Friday before Mother's Day! Gracie loves her P3 classmates and her teacher Mrs. Lesa, and even though she is desperate to go to "Big School" next year, she will miss being at the preschool where she can see her little brother all day!

Happy Mother's Day!!
Back row: Me, Jessica
Middle row: Tina, Pork Chop, Mom, Princess, Kayla
So I can tell you that I have the world's best mom. Only my sisters would say they think they have the world's best mom. Either way, the fact of the matter is she was my mom first. And that's what counts, right??
My mom was the first person to teach me that the color of someone's skin was not important. It was who they were on the inside that counted. My mother was the first person to teach me that having a broken heart hurts, and she cried with me that night that my first "true" love broke my heart. After having my own children, I understand the phrase "when your children hurt, you hurt."
She was there to share the joy of the Princess' birth we me, holding my hand through it all. And she helped me through the first few months of the Princess' life, when I was terrified that I had absolutely no clue what I was doing.
She wasn't there (physically) when Pork Chop was born, but was the first to tell me after seeing his photo: "OH MY GOSH, HE LOOKS JUST LIKE YOU!!"
My mom is one of the funniest people I know. You can't watch a scary movie with her, because her scream of terror is enough to freak you out; even if the movie itself is not that scary. My mom snores so loud she sounds like she's going to suck the whole world in through just her mouth. And there is not one single thing on this earth that you could not talk to her about. She could not cook if her life depended on it, and we give her loads of grief about that.
Still I can say, without a doubt, that of all the mother's in the world God could pick from: he gave me the best one.
Mom, I love you!!

Best.Chocolate.Ever.
I hate 3 Muskeeters. There's nothing wonderful about a chocolate bar that tastes like it's made of air.
It's like a Twix, only better. Because there's no sticky caramel. Only a little crispy wafer bar and chocolate. Lots of chocolate.
I don't care who you are.
I don't care if you hate chocolate.
This new candy bar?
Will change everything.

What has The Princess been up to?
The Princess starts K4 in August, where she will be going to the "Big" School for the first half of the day, before returning to the daycare for the afternoon. She will be learning more of what she did in preschool, which is memorizing Bible verses, and then working on shapes, numbers, letters, etc. They will also learn to write in cursive in K4, so my goal before August is to teach Gracie all the letters in her name, and how to write them herself. Here is some more of what the Princess can do:
1. She knows her first and last name, and the first and last names of her Mommy, Daddy, and baby brother.
2. She also knows relationships: Mawmaw is my mother, Nana is Daddy's mother, her aunts are my sisters, Aunt Tara is Daddy's sister, Anniston is her cousin, etc.
3. She doesn't know the days of the week yet (I mean, you can tell her what day it is) but she knows we can to school during the week, and what days we go to church.
4. She knows her alphabet, she knows how to count, and she knows her name starts with a G and can identify her name when she sees it written down.
5. She can dress and undress herself, depending on the style/fit of the clothing she is wearing. She can do her own shoes and socks too!
6. She can wash her own hair, brush her own teeth, and wash her hands by herself.
7. She has learned in the last six months to clear her dishes off the table, clean up her room by herself, and she can get her own snacks out of the refrigerator.
8. She can remember words to a ton of songs, can make up her own songs, and actually sings really well! (not that I'm suprised!)
9. She will eat absolutely anything at least once, and only dislikes corn, potatoes (unless they are french fries) and baked beans. She LOVES spaghetti, salad, macaroni and cheese, grilled chicken, and yogurt.
The princess will turn five this November (I can not believe it) and wants to plan her brother's first birthday as a Circus party!

What has Pork Chop been up to?
A whole lot of not crawling, for starters.
Okay, so give the Fat Man (yet another affectionate nickname) some credit...you can put him on his tummy, leave the room, and come back to find he has someone managed to slide himself across the floor. He will get on his knees and rock just a little bit, but no movement so far.
Gracie never crawled. At between 10-11 months she started pulling up and coasting. But the Princess will get her own special blog post later. Let's talk about Pork Chop!
He will be 9 months old the 10th of May, and while I won't have his vital stats until the 16th at his well baby visit, let me give you a run down of what Pork Chop can do:
1. Play Peek-A-Boo if you put a towel/cloth over his head and then he'll pull it off himself.
2. Hold his own bottle.
3. Feed himself finger foods.
4. Put his own pacifier in his mouth.
5. Put anything else (that doesn't belong there) in his own mouth. Carpet fuzz, lint, itty bitty pieces of paper. You name it, he'll eat it.
6. Have I mentioned he hates baby food? He would rather live off of fruit puffs, yogurt melts, and cheerios instead.
7. Thus far with table food, he has had green beans, carrots, butter beans (yes, I mushed them up and he ate every bite!) and some cake.
8. He is also working well with holding a sippy cup of ice water, although he does better at dragging/banging it then actually drinking it.
9. Shakes head for "no-no".
10. No real words yet. Alot of babbling/blowing rasberries/squealing.
11. And as of his 6-month birthday, has been sleeping in his own room, in his own crib.
12. Still has only his two bottom teeth.
13. May have curly hair like his mommy!
Stay tuned for a post that is ALL about the princess....

Random Dozen
It's time for some random dozen!
1. Have you ever been so lost that you were really afraid?
Not that I can recall.
2. Have you ever been to an island?
I've been to the Bahamas. Isn't that an island?
3. Are you more of a thinker or feeler? A feeler. Sometimes I think too much.
4. Do you tend to see issues or situations in life as black and white or shades of gray?
Black and white.
5. If you were stuck on an island, what book would you hope to have with you (Let's pretend the Bible is already there, so you can't say that.)
Anything by Jodi Picoult
6. What are you most afraid of?
Losing my family
7. Would you rather lose all of your old memories or never be able to make new ones?
neither of those sound good...
8. Pretend I'm looking at a scrapbook page about you. There are three spaces for you to drop in individual pictures. What are those pictures of, and why did you select them?
a picture of my kids together, and then a seperate one of each of them. 'Cuz I love them that much!
9. If you were re-doing your wedding, what would you do differently? (If you're single, tell me one thing you would do if you were planning a wedding OR huge party.)
Not one single thing.
10. Tell me one thing you know/believe about forgiveness.
That God forgives us over and over, every single time we sin, so we have no right to withhold forgiveness for someone else. Yeah, it might take a while, but forgive them anyway.
11. You're waiting in a doctor's office. What is your favorite way to pass that time?
Balancing the checkbook or playing solitaire on my iPod.
12. If there were a clone of you in a parallel universe what is one way you hope she/he would be the same as you and one way you hope she/he would be better?
For the sake of my close friends, I hope I don't have a clone! How could they possibly put up with TWO of me?

Changes
I have learned a lot over the past few months.
Number one, that this life here on earth sometimes comes with some very unexpected suprises.
And that how you handle those suprises not only says a lot about you, but also about your faith. Your faith in people, your faith in God.
But even when it seems like things can't possibly get any worse, if we can remember that this is our temporary home and take comfort in the arms of our Heavenly Father, things will work themselves out. And sometimes in ways we could never imagine.
I am glad to say that I have some of the best friends a girl could ever ask for, specifically some of the best Christian friends in the entire world. I thank God every day that I go to a church where family means everything. It makes me proud to call myself a part of the GBC family.
So without further ado, I present to you our brand new blog: The Princess and the Pork Chop!
Stay tuned for some of the fun stuff I'm sure will unfold in our future....
